What could you do with an extra $1,000 per month? At my house, we have a running list of needs, goals, and wants so there is always something purposeful to spend money on.

We will need a new vacuum soon along with a printer and a few appliances are on the list as well. Plus, family fun is also something we like to spend money on whether it’s picking up dinner, going on a vacation, or a family date night.

The average American needs a side hustle to make ends meet. Giving yourself a $12,000 annual raise with a flexible income stream sounds like a great start.

Here are 7 realistic ways to make an extra $1,000 part-time from home.

1. Freelance

Do you have a skill that people might pay for? Consider selling your service as a freelancer. Freelancers are not W2 workers and must pay for their own taxes and benefits. At the same time, this means you have the freedom and flexibility to set your own rates and choose who you work with.

To find freelance clients, you can send pitches to prospects who may be a good fit or use a site like Upwork to find jobs.

Some of the most popular freelance jobs that will help you make an extra $1,000 part-time from home include:

  • Freelance writing
  • Transcription
  • Video editing
  • Graphic design
  • Social media marketing
  • Consulting

2. Virtual Assistant

Are you organized and do you like to help other people with daily tasks? A virtual assistant is like a virtual secretary who helps small businesses and entrepreneurs get things done.

What I love about virtual assistant work is that it’s easy to learn and you can narrow down your specialty. I started freelance writing for extra income in 2015. Some of my clients asked me if I could do other work as well so I became a virtual assistant too. I like doing tasks like managing email or blog management along with scheduling social media posts and doing light research.

3. Create an Etsy Shop

If you like to create crafts or digital downloads, consider starting your own Etsy shop to make extra money. I’ve thought about doing this with printables because people love printable downloads whether it helps them organize their day, plan meals, or prepare for a party.

There are so many cool and creative Etsy shops and plenty of room for you to join too and sell your products. In order to earn $1,000, you’ll need to have a strategy and create multiple different products to sell.

I’d recommend following Nancy Badillo and her YouTube videos if you’re interested in making money on Etsy. She has over 100 Etsy resources and has been VERY successful with her own shop.

4. Resell Items Online

Need to make an extra $1,000 part-time from home quickly? One of the best ways to do this is by selling items online. I’m sure you have quite a few unwanted or unused items lying around your home taking up space. Get organized, declutter, and start selling things for extra money. Clothing, furniture, toys, and household items tend to sell quickly if they’re in good condition.

I sell items online all the time to keep clutter down. Recently, we sold my son’s gaming chair (since he no longer uses it) and some wall hangings. Consider selling items on eBay, Amazon, Facebook Marketplace or Poshmark.

5. Start Dog Walking or Pet Sitting

If you love pets, you may enjoy offering dog walking or pet sitting services. Walking dogs is a great way to get some exercise in and spend time with furry friends. You can charge anywhere from $15 – $25 per walk and walk multiple dogs per week.

To increase your income, consider offering pet sitting services which could be pretty popular if people need someone to watch their pet during the day or due to traveling.

Consider charging $30+ per night for pet sitting, and use sites like Rover to find paying clients in your area. You can also do your own marketing.

6. Run Errands

Another easy way to earn $1,000 per month working part-time is by running errands. This isn’t technically a work from home job, but it’s flexible and allows you to set your own schedule.

It’s something you can do easily on the go as well if you don’t mind dropping off meals using apps like GrubHub or DoorDash. Another popular app to consider signing up with is Instacart. So many people are relying on the convenience of this grocery delivery app.

I don’t like grocery shopping much myself, but I am pretty good at finding things in the store and wouldn’t mind getting paid to do it. Apps like DoorDash and Instacart also pay weekly as well so it’s a great option if you’re looking to get paid fast.

7. Become an Online Tutor

Tutoring is another great way to make extra money whether you want to earn $1,000 each month or just over the course of a few weeks.

If you excel in a particular subject, consider offering virtual tutoring services to help students whether it’s math, English, science, reading, etc. There are even some tutors who help students study for important tests or review college essays before they get submitted.

Check out sites like Tutor.com or Chegg Tutors for paid online tutoring work. You can also consider signing up for VIPKid if you have teaching experience.

There are so many ways to make extra money whether you’re looking to pay bills, save more, or just add more income back to your household. The best part is that you can earn an extra $1,000 per month easily from home and on your own terms.

Take action by narrowing down what your interests are and determine the first step to establishing a new income stream. You’ll be glad you took the initiative to get started once the money starts rolling in.
