After immigrating to United States in 1937, Mark Scheuer's grandparents, Rosel and Samuel Scheuer, decided to sell fine linens in customers' homes in the San Francisco Bay Area. His father, Fred, joined the business in 1946 and continued to build the business by making presentations in customers' homes from suitcases, also packed with samples from Europe.
